Abstract

From a sociological perspective, the aim is to explain the factors underlying crime and institutional dysfunction, based on the rise of drug trafficking in Ecuadorian society and its devastating effects—including high rates of violence, the emergence of a parasitic society, Ecuador’s integration into the global drug trafficking network, and its impact on politics and the social fabric.
