Abstract

In this issue, the Journal of Sociology focuses primarily on a series of articles whose overarching theme stems from socioeconomic, cultural, and educational reflections prompted by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in certain regions of Colombia and Ecuador. Additionally, the journal analyzes aspects related to the armed conflict in parts of the Nariño region of Colombia, concepts of race, territoriality, and identity, and the social dynamics affecting student movements, including the use of social media, such as the so-called May 9 University Movement at the University of Nariño. This prologue concludes with an interesting article on the socio-historical and politically significant studies of the era of the Province of Los Pastos, during the colonial period and the Republic, with a reflection on the impact on society resulting from the shifting of power and the dependence on state institutions prevalent during those times.
