The settlement of the Andes of southern Colombia was influenced by the processes of occupation of pre-Columbian territory and then by the formation of the colonial apparatus, giving rise to republican territorial entities, but administered by the old lordly class, which on many occasions governs them to this day. The period after the formation of the republican state in the province was an extension of the imaginaries, customs and much of the social and political structure inherited from the colony.
