AMERICA LATINA Y EL CARIBE: INTEGRACION E INSERCION EN LOS MERCADOS INTERNACIONALES
Keywords:
Integration, International Trade, Economic Development, Economic Growth, Latin American Economic IntegrationAbstract
This article discusses the main issues concerning the context in which economic integration is taking place, especially from 1960. Then it shows how different trade agreements from Latin American region have had their particular approach and results regarding their share in the international trade scenario. The main argument is to claim that in a general perspective, Latin America as a whole, as a region is loosing importance in terms of the weight of exports within the international arena. Meanwhile the structure of exports will not change; it will be difficult for Latin American countries to play a more decisive role in the international economic sphere, and to have resources to support significant levels of economic growth and sustainable development for societies as well.
