Abstract

Livestock is one of the industries that generate environmental impacts worldwide. This impact has been evaluated as the main cause of soil degradation, deforestation, contamination of water, excessive use of wood for construction, drying of wetlands, and greenhouse gas emissions. The sustainable intensification of livestock has the potential to promote social, environmental, and economic benefits, including the improvement of the management capacity of landowners and the training of workers. For this reason, in this review, the current situation in Colombia will be analyzed, and sustainable alternatives will be proposed for the improvement of livestock production and the mitigation of the environmental impact generated.
