TENDENCIAS DE LA EDUCACIÓN SUPERIOR Y EXIGENCIAS AL DOCENTE UNIVERSITARIO EN EL SIGLO XXI

Resumen

ABSTRACT

Higher education has entered to a new millennium facing crisis and the need for a deep change. Nowadays, the university is confronting so many challenges that will force the institution to transform itself or disappear. New world trends demand flexibility and innovation from the university as a way to bear the responsibilities it has with the society. There is a need of a new educator; someone who can handle the complexity and uncertainty. This individual must take into account the development of an analytical mind, the desire to investigate and the vision to transform the society. The university is experimenting profound changes in relation to research about the quality in the education. This process has neither been linear nor free of conflicts and also without a clear debate; actions that would allow the university to be in harmony with: the public sector politics, the society interests and the academic and research ethos formation as a way to obtain the desired results and to face the imposed challenges.

RESUMEN

La educación superior ha ingresado a un nuevo milenio, caracterizada por crisis y necesidad de cambio. Transformarse o desaparecer, es el desafío que enfrenta la universidad; flexibilidad e innovación le exigen las tendencias mundiales, frente a la responsabilidad que ella tiene con la sociedad; espacio donde se contempla la necesidad de un nuevo docente, que maneje la complejidad y la incertidumbre, en la consigna de desarrollar espíritu crítico, investigador y visión para transformar la sociedad. La universidad vive profundos cambios en relación con la investigación, por los desafíos de la calidad educativa; proceso, que no ha sido lineal ni carente de conflictos, sin un debate franco que le permitiera armonizar: las políticas del sector público, los intereses de la sociedad y la formación del ethos investigador del docente, para obtener los resultados esperados y hacerle frente a los retos impuestos.
