Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe and to
explain the importance of the design and use
of teaching materials for the learning of
English in low-income public schools. The
information presented in this article exposes
the great usefulness of materials such as
billboards, flashcards, videos and audios for
schools whose economic resources are not
enough to supply this type of needs and also,
for elementary school teachers who are not
experts in the teaching of English as a second
language. Considering this and as pre service
teachers, it is valuable to express and to share
this type of problem and at the same time to
start acting from our practice, proposing
solutions that can contribute to the
improvement of teaching and learning of
English from elementary school grades, where
we can detect that there are many difficulties
which need to be faced up with responsibility
and commitment.
Key words: teaching materials, learning of
English, elementary school.
