The emergence and consolidation of the Colombian sugar agro-industry, located in the geographical valley of the Cauca River, corresponds to a historical process where a diversity of factors are involved: social, geographical, environmental, economic, political, technological and cultural activities. The economic modernization of the Colombian sugar sector led to the implementation of capitalist production relations, which introduced drastic changes in the ways of exploiting labour, land and sugar production that have been supported by dominant ideologies and ways of thinking on the part of the sugar bourgeoisie. In this order of ideas here stand out some elements of analysis, drawn from the speeches of Santiago Eder and Don Hernando Caicedo, from which the stigmatization of the cane courter became active.
