TEACHER TRAINING IN THE AREA OF LANGUAGE IN LATIN AMERICA BASED ON A PEDAGOGY OF LIBERATION

Abstract

The purpose of this review article was to make a documentary review about teacher training in the language area in Latin America based on Paulo Freire's liberation pedagogy. The importance and how a liberation pedagogy can be used in this context is explained and the importance of critical thinking, dialogue and social transformation in education is emphasized. The analysis of the different articles found makes it possible to identify and deepen aspects such as: a) teacher training in Latin America, b) the pedagogy of liberation in language teaching, c) strategies and knowledge to be implemented (resulting from topics addressed throughout the semester in the subject of Epistemology and Pedagogy of the Spanish-English program). After the documentary review and argumentation, this article concludes that the pedagogy of liberation can be a valuable tool to improve language teaching in Latin America, promote social justice and equity in the region due to that can help pre-service teachers address the social, economic, and political challenges facing Latin American communities.
