Abstract

This study discusses the main, current and comparative features of the different treaties, concerning economic integration in Latin America and the Caribbean area. In the first section a comparative approach of regional economic growth is addressed; here one can have a recent historical perspective of the performance of economic production from Latin America, India and China. Following this characteristic, more details of economic integration processes are given in the second part. These details include key attributes of trade amount, quality, main partners, and coefficients of export concentration in reference to the United States economy. Finally, several aspects concerning a possible new perspective in the integration process are presented. In this last part one can recognize the desirable potential effect from concrete projects, planned as links to enhance current scenarios for the regional integration.
