Abstract

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects a significant percentage of school-age children, with an estimated prevalence between 0.5% and 1%. This article focuses on photosensitive epilepsy, a condition where epileptic seizures are triggered by visual stimuli, such as flashing lights from screens and electronic devices. It is mentioned that up to 10% of cases of epilepsy in childhood may be photosensitive. Since 2000, the "Computers to Educate" program in Colombia has improved access to technology in schools, providing equipment and training to students and teachers. However, it is crucial to consider students with photosensitive epilepsy in educational settings, especially in computer classrooms where devices may present risks. The design of interfaces and multimedia content can be problematic due to fast animations and visual patterns that act as crisis triggers. To create an inclusive and safe environment, it is essential to adjust technological settings and design accessible content. Awareness of these issues is essential to ensure that all students, including those with epilepsy, can benefit from educational technology.
