
This paper resume the conceptual issues about the Empirically Supported Therapies (EST), a recent trend in the psychotherapeutic practice. It begins with the definitions of the concepts: therapeutic improvement, efficacy, effectiveness and clinical utility, it continues with the description of the way to obtain empirical evidence of a treatment and it comments the importance of the systematic revisions like a information source of the EST. Furthermore the steps, advantages and limitations of the application process of the EST are showed. Finally, the academic and professional challenges of the ethic, legal and scientific exigencies of the EST are prposed.
