Abstract

Objective: To identify postural deficiencies in schoolchildren 8 to 12 years of a public school. Methodology: A descriptive transversal study was conducted in 35 students (9.5 ± 0.9 years ), 80% male. Postural orthostatic evaluation was performed in the sagittal and frontal plane using a grid. The variables analyzed were: Deficiencies in knee, pelvis, abdominals, lumbar, cervical and thoracic spine, scapula, shoulder and head. We applied tests: Schober, Wells, Thomas, extensibility of Column and hip adductors. Results: The main postural impairment in men and women was declining shoulder (92.9% and 100% respectively) and abdominal protrusion (78% and 100% respectively). The results of flexibility showed retractions mainly of the adductor muscles of the hip (100%). The 43% of children had cavus foot, while 42% of girls flatfoot. Discussion: Despite the young age, children evaluated showed different postural deficiencies, so it is recommended postural hygiene education.
