Abstract

Cancer is one of the major causes of mortality and the total number of cases is increasing worldwide.
In women, breast cancer is the second most common cancer. Its appearance is associated with several risk factors such as unhealthy lifestyles (cigar and alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, absence of physical activity) and exposure to carcinogens. The purpose of this study is to identify and understand the relationship between diet and breast cancer risk. Method: A review was done taking into account the different studies published in the last fifteen years which address this relationship. Results: The evidence observed in those studies indicates a fairly complex and no definitive link between diet and breast cancer risk. Conclusions: The scientific evidence does not allow determining the preventive or promoter role each of the different components of diet on breast cancer has, because of the dispersion in their results.
