A critical analysis of discourse (ACD) in historical studies

The objective of this article is the consideration of the new field of critical analysis of discourse (CDA) as a complementary approach to historical studies. The article undertakes to analyze recent developments in the incorporation of this interdisciplinary investigative approach, which has origins in critical theory, linguistic criticism and the analysis of oral discourse pertaining to the field of historical investigation. The central characteristic of this article is the consideration of the presence of oral discourse bracketed within historical events, socio-cultural expressions conditioned by social structures,and the beliefs of groups in their ability to dominate through the use of speech, determinant to transmitting ideologies within a social context. Social practices are presented parallel to discursive practices as a dialectical relationship exists among both. The themes of the article are related to control, hegemony, and especially ideologies in work environments in which CDA is concentrated and in which fields are implied interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary resources in the areas of psychology, sociology, economy, politics and education (among others), which interpret and explain the historical relationships between languages and enterprises through discourse (written and oral).
