In this article, it is specified on the course followed in the introduction of the Lancasterian method in Great Colombia, a project under the direction of Sebastián Mora Berbeo, a project that was welcomed by the government, and that led to its widespread application in the teaching of the first letters at Normal Schools from 1820. In addition, in order to establish the theory followed by Mora Berbeo, historical aspects are pointed out about the manuals of the time that influenced the practice of the aforementioned method. This allows us to cite differences and appropriations in relation to the Lancasterian practice in its general order, with Spanish manuals and those produced in other cities.
