Keywords:
foreign language teacher education program, craft model, applied science model, reflective model, model based on curriculumAbstract
Most of the programs devoted to form professionals are composed of two basic elements: theory and practice, and the programs in education are not the exception. The aim of this article is to propose a framework to support a new model of professional education in foreign languages. To accomplish this aim, three models used in general education programs are critically analyzed: the craft model, the applied science model and the reflective model. The new model of foreign language teacher education programs is based on current educational theories, curriculum approaches and pedagogical models. Finally, some strengths of the new model are highlighted.
