Abstract

Education is a fundamental element that provides resources and opportunities to individuals in order to reach desired goals by virtue of their effort. Thus, at present, education has become an essential tool for work and social life. However, the dropout rate is alarming, not only to educators but also to economists since it widens social disparities, maintains the inequality and poverty circles and blocks social transformations. Therefore, school failure transcends educational boundaries and affects society as a whole, in one way or another.
As education is the key solution to multiple social, cultural, political and economic problems, it is important to reduce the risk of exclusion, which can be reduced through a deep understanding of the phenomenon of school failure, and that highlights the relevance of its study. The highest number of absenteeism cases, early dropout, low academic performance, repetition and school conflicts occur at sixth grade as the students experience the first drastic change of the educational System, which triggers significant changes in the student’s school life. Consequently, it is necessary to examine what is happening in this grade and study the position of different theorists in order to analyze possible alternatives to solve this phenomenon of school failure.
