Abstract

This article is placed in the category known as investigation. The admission of students to the university, the obstacles that they had to overcome and some favorable achievements of their struggles are presented here, in general terms.

Since the twentieth century, female participation in public and social spheres has been active and indisputable worldwide. Therefore, it is accepted that the prejudices against women have practically disappeared. Nevertheless, there have been significant differences in respect to the circumstances, conditions and opportunities for men and women, even in institutions of higher education, where social transformation and scientific discussion take place.

This work addresses the difficulties overcome by pioneer female university students from Europe, the United States and Latin America at a general level and, more specifically, in Colombia and University of Nariño.
